What is Jesus Saying to Our Church?
By the time the Apostle John was 90 years old he had seen countless incredible things in the lives of people and the history of the world. He lived with Jesus, listened to his teachings, watched him perform miracles, witnessed his brutal execution, and experienced the power of his glorious resurrection. John also saw the miracle that happened after Pentecost, when just as Jesus predicted, this undisciplined band of outsiders were empowered to change the world through the message of Jesus and his Kingdom. But in the face of that miraculous expansion, John also saw the ruthless work of the evil one who sought to undermine and destroy this fledgling movement through the brutal repression of Rome, the deception of false teachers, and the insidious decay of moral compromise. Now, having been exiled to the barren island of Patmos in the Aegean Sea, John might have come to the low point of his life. But his trust in the redemptive power of Jesus was unwavering and his readiness to listen to the Holy Spirit was undiminished. In the midst of his isolation and suffering, Jesus came to John in the power of the Spirit and began to convey the most powerful and expansive vision of God's future ever recorded. That vision plumbs the mysteries of the ultimate conclusion of all things, but it begins with a series of straightforward letters to seven specific churches in Asia Minor, affirming the ways they were living out God's Kingdom and confronting the ways they were missing the mark. In this series we will apply each of these seven letters to our lives and our church so that we might learn to live more fully in God's Kingdom and to become a more life-changing community of love in Christ. You won't want to miss out on this exciting series!
