Middle and High School students are pulled in so many directions: school projects, extra-curricular activities and homework. Let us be part of that week and help you relax, have fun, and stay focused on what matters. We desire to have a place where you can hear Biblical teaching, participate in weekly small group discussions, play games, and build new friendships.  Questions?  Email our Student Ministries Director, Rafael Gessey.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR STUDENTS

Attention High School Students

Life Hurts God Heals!

Let's face it, sometimes life hurts, and we get caught up in habits that are hard to break. If you are dealing with pain (who isn't?) including: eating disorders, troubled family dynamics, addictions, cutting, etc., then LIFE HURTS GOD HEALS is for you. If you know someone who is hurting or could simply use some hope, we encourage you to bring them on Sunday nights. All 9th-12th grade students welcome!

What is Life Hurts God Heals?

Life Hurts God Heals (LHGH) is a small group biblical study that provides lifelong tools to help students deal with life's hurts, pains or addictions. This curriculum is targeted specifically for students in middle school and high school and is based on the beatitudes from the Bible.

For Middle School Students

Six:eight Middle School meets from 5:00 - 6:45pm for students in 6th-8th

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!" - Isaiah 6:8

Students learn the basics of Christianity through topics such as: the Ten Commandments, Lord's Prayer, Baptism, and other vital parts of the Christian faith. Our students experience God through worshiping together, weekly teaching by our adult leadership team, small groups, and games. Students have an opportunity to confirm their faith publicly as they prepare to enter high school.

For High School Students

High School Late Night -- Sunday Nights, 8:15-9:45 pm

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. - 1 Timothy 4:12

Teens gather for worship, games, teaching, and discussion each week. Teaching covers a variety of topics from basic Christian principles to today’s most relevant topics. Don’t miss this opportunity to take a step back from the world and step into an environment that is exclusively set aside for time with God and fellowship with one another! Mid-week High School small groups meet at various times during the week.

Student Small Groups

A valuable part of our student ministries programs are our small groups. Groups meet weekly, either at church or at the leader's home giving our students a chance to dive deeper into topics and gain valuable friendships with peers. This is the perfect opportunity for students to develop a trusting relationship with an adult mentor who truly cares for them. Middle School student small groups meet on Sunday night as a part of six:eight. High School groups meet in homes throughout the week.

S.W.A.T.

(Student Worship Arts Team) Wednesdays from 5:05 - 6:20pm

Students from 6th-12th grade can use their artistic gifts of music, dance, or drama through this team. This team meets weekly to learn worship leading concepts, lighting and video production, and to explore techniques of sound mixing. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to use your artistic gifts through our Student Ministries. We are looking for writers, poets, dancers, painters, and even acrobats!

Houseboat Trip

Each summer well over 100 students and leaders head up toward Northern California. Once we reach our final destination, beautiful Lake Shasta, the fun really begins! We spend the week swimming, worshiping, playing, skiing, wake boarding, tubing, teaching, learning and experiencing our amazing Lord! God works in incredible ways on this trip! All students will come back different!

Other Opportunities

Additional events throughout the year help students learn about serving in our community and allow them time to grow in their faith. Join us for annual retreats, LA City and Mexico Mission trips, mountain area get-aways, day trips to amusement parks, and our week-long summer houseboat trip. For more information contact Rafael Gessey, our Director of Student Ministries.

Staff, Mentors & Volunteers Needed

At Good Shepherd we run a complete background check and interview all volunteers. New volunteers are paired up with experienced and trusted volunteers for their first few months of service. Volunteers need not have experience just a passion for seeing students grow in their personal relationship with Christ and a desire to connect students to one another and leaders for continued support through the challenging Middle and High School years. For a copy of our volunteer policies and expectations or if you are interested in joining our team, please contact Rafael or Michael at the church office.
